Dusty feels totally at home in the desert, but he also knows that it is an unforgiving environment for those who take it for granted, unlike his hometown of Las Vegas which is always willing to give you a second chance. Dusty was working as a refrigerator repairman and studying desert ecology at night when his pre-enlistment application for the G.I. Joe team was approved. He took his Army Basic Training at Fort Bliss in Texas and loved every minute of it.

Dusty trains hard to keep himself in top physical condition, and he is not too proud to ask Flint, the more experienced team member, for tips in field craft and parachuting tactics. He knows that simply making it through the day in the harshest desert conditions is extremely difficult, especially if you are carrying up to a hundred pounds of weapons, ammo, food, water, and equipment. To Dusty, it’s just a stroll through his back yard. He doesn’t fight his environment, he coexists with everything it has to offer: snakes, scorpions, dust storms, even the extremes in temperature from day to night.
